This is Good People, Good Places, a newsletter that will help you feel better about the world—and the people in it.
Here’s why that’s important.
Psychologists tell us that we all have a negativity bias. That’s a good thing… sometimes. Remembering the bad stuff is what keeps you from eating that take-out clam chowder that’s been sitting in your fridge for two weeks. It’s also what helps you to remember to hit the bathroom before a long road trip.
Other times, however, our negativity bias drags us down—way, way down.
It transforms us into grumpy people who feel as if the world is on a quest to make us miserable. It makes us angry, pessimistic, and depressed. That’s not any fun.
The news cycle doesn’t help. Most of it focuses on the terrible: crime, disasters, and the outrageous thing some politician said or did. Social media amplifies all of that.
I don’t know about you, but I need a break, as well as some balance.
That’s why I’m on a quest to find and tell stories of good humans doing good things.
My promise to you: Everything you read here will help you to feel better about the people around you.
Here’s how your subscriptions works:
My content is free. It’s my gift, to you. That said…
You CAN become a paid subscriber, but you don’t have to. If you decide to sign up for a paid subscription, think of it as a gift. Your donation will help me to find the time to report and write more good stories. That said, I will periodically offer premium content to paid subscribers as a giant thank you.
